Municipal public service windows to stay in downtown Beijing

Government facilities offering in-person administrative services to the public will remain in their usual locations and not relocate to Beijing's sub-center in Tongzhou district.

Wang Jun, head of Beijing's newly established administrative service authority, made the announcement at his office's first press conference on Dec. 10.

The announcement addressed public concerns over convenience matters after a number of the city's government bureaus relocated to the newly opened subsidiary administrative center in recent weeks.

Wang said Beijing will also offer its residents one-stop administrative services through any window at the municipal administrative service center in Liuliqiao starting from 2019.

The city has already begun providing administrative services at the municipal level at its government service halls, and up to 70 percent of all administrative procedures at district level could be conducted at administrative service centers and halls in various districts.

Wang said that with more authorization from relevant government departments, the service windows can offer one-stop administrative services to the residents, which will greatly increase efficiency.

Moreover, the city also renovated its online government service halls to better accommodate users' habits, and customized services for individuals and company.

Residents can log on to the municipal administrative service website (banshi.beijing.gov.cn) and access the online services of 24 government departments in Beijing, including the Municipal Development and Reform Commission and the Municipal Commission of Housing and Urban-Rural Development.

In recent years, the city has been consolidating and standardizing government websites. According to Wang, the number of Beijing's government websites has decreased from 1,046 to 82.

The city is also consolidating its service hotlines, aiming to make 12345 the general customer service hotline of the government.

Wang said the government will retire 10 out of 16 hotline numbers by Dec. 15, and 11 service hotlines of municipal public service companies will be accessible through a "one-button transfer."

The government will also provide enterprises with more services and make more service items available on mobile devices, Wang added.
