An exhibition featuring more than 500 photos by 106 photographers from more than 40 countries was staged on Dec. 18 at the China Millennium Monument, showcasing the tremendous changes Beijing went through over the past 20 years.

The exhibition in a space of more than 1,000 square meters was organized by the Information Office of Beijing Municipal People's Government to celebrate the 40th anniversary of China's reform and opening up. It will last through Jan. 1, 2019.

More than 150 photographers from more than 50 countries have been invited to take part since the event series was initiated in 1999. The photographers took pictures of Beijing's historic places, modern landmarks, and streets to capture the city's evolution and vibe.

The photos on display, which spanned 20 years, showcase Beijing's history, culture, modern appeal, environment, and the daily life of local residents.

A portion of the photos comes from awarded works of the "Beijing Through Lens of Foreign Friends" Photo Competition.

The photos are displayed through multimedia platforms, using various technologies such as infrared capture and touch screens.

As an interactive feature, visitors can also get their photos taken in front of a green screen at the exhibition, and be placed into pictures of Beijing's various landmarks.
