China reports 2,804 deaths from infectious diseases in Dec.

A total of 2,804 people died of infectious diseases in China in December 2018, according to statistics released by the National Health Commission.

There were 712,581 cases of infectious diseases reported last month.

The commission said that no cases of Class A infectious diseases were reported in December. Class A diseases, including cholera and the plague, are the most serious classification in China's Law on the Prevention and Treatment of Infectious Diseases.

A total of 289,613 infections of diseases classified as Class B infectious diseases were reported, resulting in 2,788 deaths in December. Viral hepatitis, tuberculosis, syphilis, scarlet fever and gonorrhea accounted for 93 percent of these cases.

Class C diseases caused 16 deaths in December. Foot and mouth disease, influenza and infectious diarrhea were the most prevalent in this category, accounting for 93 percent of the cases.
