The Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee on Wednesday awarded the Role Model of the Time title to 50 outstanding Beijing Role Models.

These people stood out for their contributions to the independent innovation of key technologies, service to communities and rural areas, brave deeds to protect other people’s lives and properties at critical moments, achievements through perseverance even if being disabled, active participation in volunteer activities, and other good deeds with great influence.

Since 2014, Beijing has been selecting role models across the city and calling for the public to learn from them. Over the five years, people in the Chinese capital recommended as many as 260,000 models, nearly 10,000 of whom were selected as Beijing Role Models.

Among those receiving the honor are scientists, entrepreneurs, professors, artisans, as well as sanitation workers, farmers, and people from other cities participating in Beijing's construction.

So far, over 600 people have been named on the weekly, monthly and annual lists of Beijing Role Models. The 50 people who won the Role Model of the Time title are among those who ever ranked on the annual lists.

People around the country gave warm responses after learning about the deeds of the outstanding role models recently.
