January dustfall in Beijing down 4.9 percent

Dustfall in January in Beijing came down by 4.9 percent from the same period last year, according to a news release by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment on March 12.
The volume of atmospheric fine particle deposit in the Chinese capital in January averaged 3.9 tons per square kilometer, the release says.
As part of an action plan to improve air quality, a total of 28 cities including Beijing, Tianjin as well as 26 smaller cities in the provinces of Hebei, Shanxi, Shandong and Henan, vow to cut PM2.5 concentration and meet smog reduction targets.
According to reports, the dustfall of the 28 cities ranged from 1.8 to 17.9 tons per square kilometer in January, averaging 5.9 tons per square kilometer, down 3.3 percent year-on-year.
For major cities like Beijing, Shijiazhuang, Zhengzhou and Tianjin, the monthly average was kept below 9 tons per square kilometer as required by the "Air Pollution Control Plan for Autumn and Winter 2018-2019 in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region and Surrounding Areas."
Among all 28 cities, only Yangquan and Taiyuan in Shanxi province did not meet the requirement.
