Beijing's Tongzhou district will push forward construction of 12 major road traffic projects in 2019, according to the district urban management commission and Tongzhou's highway sub-bureau of the Beijing Municipal Commission of Transport on Wednesday.

Among the projects, the eastern extension of Subway Line 7, the southern extension of Subway Batong Line, and the urban northern extension of Songliang Road are scheduled to be finished this year.

After Songliang Road is extended, vehicles from northern Beijing will no longer have to go around Sixth Ring Road and the G101 highway to reach the city's sub-center and it will also be easier to drive to and from villages in northern Tongzhou.

Moreover, construction of the east extension of Guangqu Road and its accompanying underground expressway and utility tunnel will begin in May.

In addition, construction of the Tongzhou section of the Beijing-Tangshan Railway, the first phase of the intercity rail link in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, and the comprehensive transportation hub of the city's sub-center will start this year. The district will also pave six main streets and at least 10 branching roads this year.

To alleviate traffic congestion, the district is planning to take measures to improve traffic circulation at 60 intersections with serious traffic jams and around the Jiukeshu subway station.
