According to the Beijing Municipal Commission of Transport, seven key roads to the venues of the upcoming Expo 2019 Beijing have been finished and open to traffic, providing solid transport infrastructure for the event.

The seven projects are the Xingyan Expressway, the plain section of the Yanchong Expressway, Yankang Road, Kangzhang Road, Baikang Road, Dongjiang Road, and Yannong Road.

The Xingyan Expressway and the plain section of the Yanchong Expressway (also known as the Beijing-Chongli Expressway) were opened to traffic on Jan. 1. While directly serving Expo 2019 Beijing, the two expressways, as part of the northwest expressway network of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, also help to alleviate congestions on the Beijing-Tibet G6 Expressway and the Beijing-Xinjiang G7 Expressway. They also contribute to the development of economy and tourism in the less-developed Zhangbei region.

Under the supervision of the Yanqing transport authorities, a total 22.72 kilometers of road projects have been completed to support the expo, including the reconstruction project of Baikang Road, Yannong Road, and Dongjiang Road, as well as the upgrading project of Yankang Road and Kangzhang Road.

The 3.4-kilometer Kangzhang Road project starts from the side road of the G6 Expressway and ends at Yankang Road. Yankang Road stretches from Hunan West Road in the north to the location of the Kangzhang local government, with a total length of 9.58 kilometers. Both roads have been widened to become four-lane divided highways. The two roads are important side roads for the expo park, through which visitors can reach Gates 2, 3, and 4 of the expo park as well as the expo park hotel.

Baikang Road, which connects Kangzhang Road to the Yanchong Expressway with a length of 3.8 kilometers, has also been upgraded to a four-lane divided highway. Yannong Road, which connects Yanxia Road and the Yanchong Expressway side road, has been widened to 7 meters. Dongjiang Road, comprised of the newly-built section and the old section with a length of 4 kilometers, will become a four-lane divided road with bicycle lanes, green belts, and sidewalks. Baikang Road and Dongjiang Road are both important transport channels connecting the expo park. While both roads lead to entrances and exits of the expo park, Baikang Road is also adjacent to the unfenced area of the park, and Dongjiang Road is the main road in the south of the planned Yanqing new town.

The road projects strengthen the connection between key expressways and the expo park and enable fast transport transfer and smooth transport during the peak period, which will also aid the economic development and urban construction of Yanqing district.

The Municipal Commission of Transport has formulated a plan for the management of transport around the expo park, including the renewal and maintenance of transportation infrastructure, cleaning and maintenance of roads, and management of trees, bridge rails, and road markings. The commission will make efforts to provide clear road signs and clean roads for visitors during the expo period.
