Over 80% Chinese adults read in 2018

More than 80 percent of Chinese adults read books, newspapers or magazines in 2018, with digital reading gaining more popularity, results of a national reading survey unveiled Tuesday have shown.

Compared with 80.3 percent in 2017, the figure rose slightly to 80.8 percent in 2018, extending the rising streak to six years in a row, according to the survey conducted by the Chinese Academy of Press and Publication.

About 76 percent of respondents have accessed reading content through digital channels, including online reading and reading on mobile gadgets, up from 73 percent in 2017.

The survey, the 16th of its kind conducted from August to December 2018, had a sample size of 19,683 people from 29 provincial-level regions.
