A national Internet of Vehicles (IoV) industrial base is to break ground in Taihu Town, in Beijing's Tongzhou district. The goal is to develop the area into a globally influential innovation center for internet-connected smart vehicles.

The IoV industrial base project was planned as early as 2013. The construction permit for the project was issued a few days ago, which means that the construction is to begin within three months from the date of the issuance of the permit.

The Taihu base is a joint project between the Beijing Municipal Government and the Ministry of Transport. The Headquarters Base Management Committee, the China Transport Telecommunications & Information Center, and China Transinfo Group are in charge of building the project. Focusing on dynamic monitoring and operational services of commercial vehicles, the industrial base will gather research laboratories, engineering centers, monitoring centers, and core enterprises, aiming to build an IoV industry chain.

The Taihu high-end headquarters base is planned to be a technology service supporting area, focusing on developing the science and technology service industry and the high-end business service industry. It is also positioned mainly to develop such strategic emerging industries as IoV, mobile internet, biomedicine, energy conservation and environmental protection, new energy, and the modern service industry featuring research and development services, science and technology services, and creative culture.

In the future, through project development, the IoV base is expected to promote the sustainable development of the project area, enhance the overall function of the region, and ultimately turn the Taihu area into a core area of the IoV industry.
