On Thursday, 90 journalists covering the Second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation visited Beijing Daxing International Airport, which is set to open in September this year.
The journalists came from 46 countries and regions, including the U.S., Japan, Russia, South Korea, and the Netherlands.
During the visit, the journalists learned about the airport's construction and the preparations for its operation, both entering the home stretch. According to the airport authority, construction will finish by the end of June, and operation will start at the end of September.
An introductory video of the airport showed the visitors the main terminal, which is set to be one of the world's largest upon completion. It also lays out the airport's targeted capacities: an annual passenger throughput of over 100 million and an annual cargo throughput of 4 million tons.
After getting a bird's eye view of the airport atop its central structure, the journalists gave high praise to the construction speed and quality. After learning that it takes passengers less than eight minutes to walk from the middle of the terminal to the farthest gate after security check, an Egyptian journalist named Diab Mahmoud Saad Kamel praised the passenger-friendliness of the airport.
The trip was part of a media tour organized by the press center of the Belt and Road forum and the Beijing municipal information office.
