A police investigation found Wang Linqing, an assistant judge of the Supreme People's Court (SPC), stealing case files and other confidential documents, according to a statement given to Xinhua Friday.

Wang allegedly stole the files and hid them in his home before destroying them, due to a "personal grudge" he held against the SPC, in November 2016, according to the statement citing the Beijing police.

From June to August 2018, he also allegedly took pictures and copied confidential files of the SPC, following instructions from Zhao Faqi, an individual involved in a civil case Wang heard, and worked with Zhao and others to steal digital documents from the SPC computers, the police said.

In December 2018, Wang and Zhao allegedly concocted a story about the mysterious disappearance of case files and Wang facing revenge from SPC officials, and sent the information to Cui Yongyuan, an Internet celebrity, for publishing.

Police also found leads of Wang's involvement in graft and handed them to the supervisory agencies, the statement said.

The Beijing supervisory commission has opened an investigation into Wang's graft case.

The police are still investigating Zhao for being an accomplice of Wang in stealing state secrets.
