No casualties reported after 5.1-magnitude quake hits Jilin

No casualties have been reported yet after a 5.1-magnitude earthquake jolted Ningjiang District, Songyuan City of northeast China's Jilin Province, local authorities said Saturday morning.

Many people escaped out of houses and went to the streets, as a relatively strong tremor was felt in the city area. Power and water supply, as well as communication network were not affected, according to the municipal publicity department.

Emergency response system has started in the city, the department said.

The earthquake hit at 6:24 a.m. Saturday, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC).

The epicenter was monitored at 45.3 degrees north latitude and 124.75 degrees east longitude. The quake struck at a depth of 10 km, the center said in a statement.
