Xiong Hai, 46, sheriff of Yijing community of the Luohu branch of Shenzhen Municipal Public Security Bureau, has been awarded the honor of 'excellent civil servant' for 12 consecutive years.

Joining the police in December 1992, Xiong says it's important to build harmonious relations with local residents and property management departments, as well as to solve practical difficulties for the people.

After the super typhoon Mangkhut hit Shenzhen in September last year, Xiong immediately instructed all staff in his department to work with the community office employees to remove the fallen trees on the road in affected areas such as the hardest-hit area around Yijing Primary School. Together they worked for several days to ensure nobody was injured.

Xiong now actively mobilizes people to engage in public security work, and strengthens patrolling of the neighborhood to prevent crimes. Local residents say that Xiong has made an important contribution to the community's peace and security.
