Innovation Week to show Beijing's high-tech achievements

Beijing is planning to unveil a number of technological achievements over the upcoming 2019 National Mass Innovation and Entrepreneurship Week, which is scheduled to open Thursday.
According to reports, the achievements will cover a diverse field of cutting-edge technologies, such as integrated circuits, AI, information technology, bio-technology and health, and new materials.
The Beijing section of the Innovation Week has the theme of "integrating vitality of innovation and entrepreneurship, energizing power of development." Exhibitions will demonstrate innovation elements and sources, innovative and entrepreneurial ecology, and the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei collaborative community.
The exhibition area totals 18,000 square meters, and will present over 300 innovative programs from over 300 companies. Over 130 technological service agencies will participate, and 31 events will be held during the week.
Organizers said that Zhongguancun has stepped up its efforts to provide better services for innovation and entrepreneurship. In 2018, Zhongguancun was first in the country to issue a guideline on R&D support of high-tech small and micro businesses. It funded 1,485 projects from 18,250 such companies last year.
Last year, 86,395 patent applications were filed by companies from the Zhongguancun demonstration area, a year-on-year growth of 17%. And 54 projects in the fields of AI, disruptive new materials, and high-end chips received National Science and Technology Awards.
The technology innovations led to a revenue boom in the Zhongguancun demonstration area. In 2018, the total revenue generated by high-tech companies in the demonstration area reached 5.9 trillion yuan, up by 11 % over the previous year. Among the sum, 1.1 trillion yuan was generated from technological achievements, up 19.4% year-on-year.
In addition, many achievements on display will give people a close-up look of how high-tech innovations are changing their lives. For example, a facial recognition system based on AI and big data technologies could give suggestions to people wishing to receive cosmetic surgeries.
