China's national observatory on Sunday renewed a yellow alert for rainstorms in a number of eastern and southern areas.

From Sunday evening to Monday evening, heavy rain and rainstorms are expected to hit parts of Jiangxi, Fujian, Guangdong, Sichuan and Yunnan provinces as well as Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the National Meteorological Center said.

Some regions will experience torrential rain, with precipitation up to 200 mm in parts of Guangdong.

The center advised local governments to keep alert to possible flooding, landslides and mudslides caused by heavy rain, and recommended outdoor operations be halted in hazardous areas.

China has a four-tier color-coded weather warning system, with red representing the most severe, followed by orange, yellow and blue.
