The construction of the Beijing Daxing International Airport is making its final sprint, and the construction of its supporting facilities is speeding up and is expected to be completed by the end of September, together with the airport.

The supporting infrastructure of the airport mainly includes transportation, water, and municipal and environmental facilities. According to the Beijing Municipal Development and Reform Commission, in planning the Beijing Daxing International Airport, they drew on the advanced experience at home and abroad to make overall considerations for the future development of the southern part of the city and the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. They also proposed to construct an integrated transportation network of railways, urban rail transits, and expressways.

Four expressways under construction

Beijing Daxing International Airport Expressway, an eight-lane road, starts from the Tuanhe Bridge on the South Fifth Ring Road, via Xingyi Road, South Sixth Ring Road, Weiyong Road, Pang'an Road, Beijing Daxing International Airport North Line Expressway and Dali Road, and ends at the north boundary of the airport, totaling 27 kilometers in length. The project is scheduled to be completed and put into operation together with the new airport in September 2019.

Beijing Daxing International Airport North Line Expressway is a two-way eight-lane motorway spanning 14.8 kilometers, connecting Beijing-Kaifeng Expressway in the west and Beijing-Taipei Expressway in the east. It is expected to be in operation together with the new airport in September in 2019.

The Beijing sector of Beijing-Taipei Expressway covers a total length of 27 kilometers from the South Fifth Ring Road to the perimeter of Beijing and was open to traffic at the end of 2016. This two-way eight-lane motorway facilitates transportation between central Beijing and suburban Yizhuang and Daxing districts.

Completed at the end of 2017, the expansion of Beijing-Kaifeng Expressway included the expansion of main roads and side roads, which has greatly improved road conditions and reduced traffic congestion there.

Beijing-Xiongan Intercity Railway

The Beijing-Xiongan Intercity Railway starts at Liying Station on the Beijing-Kowloon Railway and leads southward to the terminal Xiongan Station, passing through Beijing's Daxing district, Beijing Daxing International Airport, and Hebei's Gu'an, Yongqing, and Bazhou. Along the 92-kilometer line, there are five stations, and the section from Liying to the newly constructed airport covers approximately 36 kilometers.

The intercity railway connects Beijing West Station at its north and Xiongan-Shangqiu High-speed Railway at its south, serving as a fast track linking Xiongan with Beijing, Tianjin and Shijiazhuang.

Rail transits

The Phase 1 Project of the New Airport Line is 41.4 km, connecting Beijing Daxing International Airport and Caoqiao Station in Fengtai district. It includes three stations and is to be completed in September 2019.

The Phase 2 Project is an extension from Caoqiao to Lize Business District (a city terminal included). Its ground-breaking work will begin at the end of this year, and will be completed in 2021. Upon completion, it will only take 20 minutes, 25 minutes, and 30 minutes from Caoqiao, Lize Business District, and Financial Street, respectively, to Daxing Airport.

Four municipal roads

Dali Road is a 14.9-kilometer major route connecting Yufa Town, Daxing Airport, and Lixian Town. This project starts from Daqing-Guangzhou Expressway in the west and reaches Beijing-Taipei Expressway in the east.

Qingli Road is a 2.1-kilometer major route that links Lixian Town, Daxing Airport, and the airport's economic zone. It stretches from Daxing Airport North Line Expressway to Dali Road. Both of the two municipal roads have been under construction since December last year.

Yongxinghe North Road spans 12 kilometers, connecting Yufa Town, Lixian Town, Daxing Airport, and the airport's economic zone. The section from Highway 106 to Cida Road (about 10 kilometers) will be completed along with the airport.

Tuanhe Road is planned to be a two-way, four-lane road. Spanning 9.3 kilometers, it is to be built alongside with Daxing Airport Expressway. It begins from Houcha Road in the north and reaches Pang'an Road in the south, right through the Beijing-Shanghai Expressway. The road is set to be completed by the end of this year.

According to the Beijing Municipal Development and Reform Commission, a lot of breakthroughs have been made during construction, such as rotating bridge complexes synchronously, piling 1,200 girders in a single month, and adopting ice-melting paving technology in a large scale.
