Kunming customs in southwest China's Yunnan Province busted 23 drug trafficking cases, with 394.3 kg of drugs seized in the first five months of the year, customs authorities said Tuesday.

From January to May, 16 suspects were arrested and three gangs were cracked down by the Kunming customs.

In one case, three suspects were arrested and 16 kg of methamphetamine were seized at the China-Myanmar border on January 4.

On April 1, another cross-border drug trafficking case was busted in Jinping County in Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture. Three suspects were arrested and 25.3 kg of methamphetamine and heroin were seized.

Yunnan is a major front in China's battle against drug crime, as it borders the Golden Triangle known for its rampant drug production and trafficking.
