Liu Jieyi, director of the Taiwan Work Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, met with a delegation led by Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je Friday.

The delegation is visiting Shanghai for an annual forum between the two cities.

Stressing a community of shared future for compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, Liu called for efforts in expanding cross-Strait exchanges and cooperation and advancing integrated development of the two sides of the Strait.

Acting upon the vision of making development people-centered, the mainland is working wholeheartedly to promote the wellbeing of Taiwan compatriots, Liu said.

"People across the Strait should resolutely oppose 'Taiwan independence,' jointly safeguard peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and contribute to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation," Liu said.

Noting two sides of the Strait share the same root and speak the same language, Ko said the two sides, guided by the conviction that they are all of the same family, should join hands in advancing peaceful development of cross-Strait relations and improve the wellbeing of people across the Strait.

The Shanghai-Taipei forum has been held by Shanghai and Taipei in rotation since 2010.
