The Luohu government sent a delegation to visit Guangming, Baoan, Nanshan and Futian districts of Shenzhen on Aug 16 to learn their experiences in shanty town renovation, and urban development management.

Led by Luo Yude, head of Luohu district government, the team consisted of other senior officials including Song Yan, Fan Defan, Li Xiaoning, He Xinhong and Wen Zhong, as well as directors of all major government departments.

Luohu is engaged in an intensive shanty town renovation project, eager to secure more land to meet the needs of its growing population and new industrial development.

Last year, it secured 114,000 square meters of land through various means. So far, the district has reserved 950,000 square meters for future use.

While visiting the Guangming district, Luo encouraged his colleagues to learn from the district government's efficiency, and take the initiative to fully undertake their responsibilities in handling of illegal structures.

Luo learned from Yao Ren, Party chief of the Baoan district, that it has been paying special attention to developing its international convention and exhibition center into the largest in the world, and making it an important force for local economic growth.

Luo said his district should learn from Baoan's vision in planning and pre-vision management, so as to better promote Luohu's sustainable development.

During the delegation's visit to Nanshan, Luo urged his officials to learn from Nanshan's craftsmanship and build more quality engineering projects for the city.

When the team visited Futian, Luo was impressed by the district's ambition to build platforms for Shenzhen-Hong Kong cooperation. As Luohu is also keen to undertake such work, he encouraged team members to heed Futian's valuable experiences and practices.

The team members described their visits as eye-opening, and said they would put what they had learned into practice in the future.
