The Luohu branch of the Shenzhen market supervisory bureau cracked a case involving counterfeit mooncakes on Sept. 3.

Working together with the public security department, the Luohu market watchdog has confiscated nearly 1,000 boxes of mooncakes, counterfeit versions of several Hong Kong pastry brands.

According to the public security bureau taking part in the raid, some consumers reported that some mooncakes they bought online were believed to be fake.

A seller of the problematic mooncakes was detained by the police, suspected of violating the Food Safety Law.

Mooncakes are traditional snacks for Mid-Autumn Festival, or the 15th day of the eighth month of the Chinese lunar calendar, which falls on Sept. 13 this year.

The Luohu market supervisory bureau said it will continue to strengthen its law enforcement to ensure food safety, and those who violate regulations will be held accountable according to the law.

The bureau urges consumers to actively report any issues concerning food safety to authorities.
