The Luohu government held a farewell gathering on Sept. 10 to send off 158 recruits from the district to the People's Liberation Army.

Luo Yude, Party chief of Luohu, and Liu Zhiyong, acting head of the Luohu government, attended the meeting with other senior district officials, including Li Xiaoning, Cui Wei and Zhuang Ruining.

Luo and Liu extended their congratulations on the recruits, and offered respects to their families.

Luo hoped the recruits would be able to quickly adapt to the new environment and become qualified soldiers to make their due contributions to the nation.

Zhang Wei, a parent of one recruit, said: "I was recruited 25 years ago, and was educated by the army. Today, I actively support my son to become a soldier of the PLA, and I am proud he was chosen."

The Luohu government attaches great importance to military recruiting work.

Nearly 690 young people from Luohu applied for recruitment. Finally, 158 candidates were chosen, among whom 117 are college students.
