According to Wu Junqing, vice director of the Economy and Information Technology department of Zhejiang, the Global Internet Competition named “Straight to Wuzhen”, is a newly-added part of the sixth World Internet Conference (WIC) this year, which aims to promote the growth of the digital economy.

"By highlighting new technologies, the competition provides an important platform for cooperation between Chinese and global companies in terms of projects, technologies, talents and capital," Wu said, "The competition is committed to promoting global technological cooperation and innovation, encouraging high-tech entrepreneurship, and attracting talent to cutting-edge industries."

Since April, this competition has attracted over 400 entrepreneurial teams or individuals, a quarter being international, which are involved in the fields of data analytics, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, 5G applications, Internet of Things, intelligent manufacturing, chips, mobile internet, etc.

Through five Chinese channels, three overseas channels and various online platforms, 34 of the 400 projects were selected to take part in the semi-finals on Oct. 19. The projects include the creation of a Real-time Multi-GPU rendering engine and digital-content making platform, Audar Smart Fall Detection and Healthcare Information System, and Artificial Intelligence Based Video Analytics Technologies.

According to Fu, the contestants will be invited to participate in the capital matchmaking meetings, Zhejiang Digital Economy Industry Cooperation Conference and will be featured in the “Project Promotion” program during the WIC.

"For projects that win the final awards, the city of Jiaxing and related sponsors will provide project implementation fund subsidies, with the maximum award reaching 10 million yuan," Fu said.

This year's WIC will run from October 20 to 22 in Wuzhen, Zhejiang province.
