Beijing has issued 1,750 local standards, and provided 150 million yuan (US$21 million) in subsidies to encourage the creation of technical standards at the enterprise level, according to Ji Yan, director of the Beijing Municipal Market Supervision and Administration.

A commemorative event was organized Monday in Beijing to celebrate the 50th World Standards Day, as local authorities honored the voluntary efforts of those who contributed to the creation and development of technical standards, and shared with the public measures taken and achievements made in recent years.

Yi said the city has issued 1,750 local standards, including 50 Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei regional standards, setting up a standard system that caters to the needs of the capital. The standard system has played an important role in phasing out the non-capital functions, promoting the coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, combating pollution, and facilitating the fine management of the city.

Focusing on the emerging industries, Beijing-based enterprises have created several international standards in key areas such as big data, cloud computing, the internet of things, new energy vehicles, integrated circuits, robots, and 3D printing, making great contribution to global interconnection. By the end of 2018, Beijing led the national ranking in terms of the number of international standards created, and the number of institutions that house a secretariat of the technical committees of an international organization for standardization.

In the first three quarters of 2019, Beijing issued 123 local standards, which played an important role in supporting the planning and fine management of the capital, ensuring safe operation, and improving standard of living. In order to resolutely fight the battle against pollution, many local standards were issued. The pollutant emission control requirements in Beijing are the most stringent in the country and have reached the world advanced level. Also, a number of special projects were organized in key areas to provide technical support to the green and low-carbon development of the city. Moreover, a series of special standards have been implemented to promote production safety and to establish a long-term supervision mechanism. Lastly, service standards have been set up for industries such as home care and cold chain food delivery to live up to the expectations of the public towards certain services.
