The 2019 Zhongguancun Forum's parallel forum "Global Academicians Science & Technology Innovation and Cooperation" was held in Zhongguancun Exhibition Center on Wednesday. Thirty-three academician from 11 countries, including the U.S., Canada, the U.K., France, Japan, Russia, and China, participated in the forum, along with 210 other attendees.

The forum started with an opening speech by Gui Sheng, director of the Beijing Talent Work Bureau. He said Beijing has the top business environment in the country, and the city has been actively advancing the construction of an international talent community, extending from the first batch of four pilot communities — Wangjing, Zhongguancun Street, Future Science City, and New Shougang — to cover the entire city.

According to Gui, Beijing has always been committed to international cooperation with an open-minded attitude, and Zhonguancun has become a communication platform for creative notions, an incubator for innovations, and a trading platform to unveil new technologies and products from home and abroad. Currently, Beijing is pushing ahead the construction of a technological innovation center with global influence, reforming the economic structure to underpin the development of cutting-edge technologies. They encompass an array of industries from new-generation information technology, to integrated circuit, smart devices, healthcare, and energy-saving.

In the meantime, Beijing is rearranging its priorities, focusing on new institutions for research and development in brain science, quantum science, graphene, artificial intelligence, and stem cell, as well as the development of 22 cutting-edge innovation centers in partnership with universities in the region.

A series of major projects were announced at the forum, such as the Zhongguancun International Talent Pool and Overseas Academicians Innovation Center. It will be constructed by the Zhongguancun Haidian Park Entrepreneurship Service Center and the Beijing Global Talent Exchange Association. Following that, a number of policies and measures will be formulated to attract high-end talent from overseas to conduct research and make breakthroughs in Beijing. Moreover, a record-setting number of foreign academicians announced that they will join the Zhongguancun Haidian Park.
