A group of experts from the World Health Organization (WHO) visited Wuhan on Monday and Tuesday to inspect work related to the pneumonia epidemic caused by the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV), according to the National Health Commission (NHC).

The experts inspected body temperature monitoring for outbound travelers at the airport and customs of Wuhan, capital of central China's Hubei Province where the pneumonia cases were first reported, the NHC said.

They also went to see the whole process of screening, quarantine and treatment of patients with fever at a local hospital and visited the laboratory of the Hubei Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

The two sides made exchanges on issues including the infectivity of the virus, severe cases and source of infection. They also confirmed people-to-people transmission of the virus and infections among medical staff, the NHC said.

The WHO expressed its appreciation of China for voluntarily reporting information of the epidemic, sharing the genome sequence of the virus and its willingness to further share future prevention, control and treatment plans, the NHC said.

The WHO said it will continue stepping up cooperation with China and provide relevant technical support, according to the NHC.
