The people's armed forces department of Luohu district has dispatched more than 900 officials and citizens to take part in the battle against the novel coronavirus in the district since its outbreak.

Dedicated to serving as an emergency response force, officials and militias help grassroots civil servants to carry out traffic control health checks, transport daily necessities, and sterilize public areas.

"All of my colleagues have skipped their holiday and come to the front lines," said Pan Libing, an official of the department serving in residential communities under the administration of the Dongxiao sub-district office.

"We are in charge of guarding the main entrance of the village, and we must make sure every person and vehicle passing through are checked," said Deng Qingtang, a militia battalion commander at Aoxia village.

Zhang Haiqiang, an official of the people's armed forces department who is responsible for guarding the only entrance of Shenzhen Antique Market, said, "The flow of visitors is big, so we must be on full alert."

He said his colleagues were all aware of the importance of their work that directly concerned people's health and safety.

Cao Zheng, an official of the department working at Hubei New Village in Dongmen, said, "The militias have to overcome the shortage of medical supplies. For instance, the masks many people use are bought by themselves."

Qiu Xueping, head of the people's armed forces department of Luohu, said: "The militias are just civilians when they are not on duty. The fight against the epidemic is a special period when they must fulfill their obligations."

Qiu and Zou Benke, political commissar of the department, visited the officials and militias serving on the front lines in Luohu on Feb. 13 and Feb. 15, encouraging them to try their best and work together with all relevant parties to defeat the virus.
