Beijing-based National Institute of Biological Sciences (NIBS) recently launched its tech incubation and transfer base in Zhongguancun Life Science Park. GeiGene and Huahui Health became the first group of companies to open offices in the base.

"BeiGene's new drug for severe COVID-19 patients has entered clinical trials," NIBS Director Wang Xiaodong said. "Huahui Health is also doubling efforts to develop COVID-19 drugs."

Wang said that BeiGene will add several hundred new employees to its current 400-plus team after its new office opens, and that the size of the new team will match an international pharmaceutical company's cancer research team.

BeiGene focuses on the research and development of molecular targeted drugs and immuno-oncology drugs for the treatment of cancer, and it is the first Chinese biotech firm listed on NASDAQ and the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong. Huahui Health was incubated and fostered by NIBS in the field of hepatitis B virus.

Zhongguancun Life Science Park will prioritize the provision of space for the incubation and transfer base. The park will also fully support the institute's innovation projects through investing in several experimental and special platforms, and ensure that the institute's commercial tech transfer projects are put into production in the park.
