The Beijing Municipal Administrative Center plans to make Taihu village a key cultural landmark and an integrated cultural platform in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, according to the city's Municipal Commission of Development and Reform on Aug. 3.

Located in Beijing's Tongzhou district, Taihu village is an incubator for original plays and shows. It is composed of three functional areas: performing arts district in its center, industrial innovation district in the west, and living area in the east.

The village is situated next to Beijing's Universal Studios theme park and the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Area (Beijing E-Town). Its artistic atmosphere and performing arts are expected to be further improved with various cultural events and renovation plans in place.

"The development of Taihu village is an important component of the functional positioning and industrial progress of Beijing's sub center," explained an official with the city's Municipal Commission of Development and Reform.

In addition, the village will further improve its public transport facilities both within and leading into the village. With several overpasses to be built in the near future, it will become better connected to central Beijing, the city's sub center and Beijing E-town. The main traffic network inside the village is also currently taking shape.

A subway station on line M102 will also be located in the village, while its connections with surrounding areas will be further strengthened with bus routes and stops to be introduced.

Regarding its ecological environment, the village is working to implement an additional round of the city's "one million mu of new plantation" plan, so as to provide residents with more green space.

Water from the nearby Xiaotaihou River in Tongzhou district will be directed through the village, and a cultural zone featuring the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal will be established based on the Xiaotaihou River Marina Relics Park.

Apart from being an incubator for original plays and shows, Taihu village will also form a cluster for big data companies, copyright institutions and trade centers. The village will also work to become a tourist attraction by holding diverse cultural events and art performances.
