As the oldest district in Shenzhen, the water supply facilities in some neighborhoods in Luohu have become outdated, as they were built to comparatively low standards decades ago. Over time, this has affected residents' drinking water security to some extent.

To effectively resolve the problem, the Luohu district government initiated a project on July 1, 2019, to upgrade the grassroots water supply facilities, and it is scheduled to be finished next year.

According to the government, the water supplies bureau, water supplies group of Luohu, and the Shenzhen Liyuan Water Supplies Design and Counseling Company have begun their preparations.

From October, the district will begin upgrading all pump houses in its old neighborhoods, and the work is expected to be finished by early next year.

The advice of the residents is being sought.

Sometimes it is the community water supply system that decides the quality of the domestic water. "It is urgent for the government to make sure the community water supply does not affect the water quality," said a manager of the Shenzhen Liyuan Water Supplies Design and Counseling Company.

He said the project will benefit people's health and livelihoods, and that the management of the community water supply system must be put under effective supervision, and the facilities must be well maintained and upgraded to guarantee the reliability of the community water supply.

The bureau said it will take advantage of the project to ensure that the fire-fighting water supply in the old neighborhoods is up to date. In addition, engineering plans will be customized to satisfy communities' varying needs.

All projects, funded by the government, will be examined before they are put into use to ensure their reliability.
