The much-anticipated Universal Beijing Resort in the Chinese capital's sub-center in Tongzhou district is gearing up for trial operations next spring. At present, 87% of the construction and test work has now been completed.

According to the resort, its WaterWorld themed land has passed the completion test and is ready for commission.

The other six themed lands in the park are the Kung Fu Panda Land of Awesomeness, Transformers Metrobase, Minion Land, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Jurassic World Isla Nublar, and Hollywood.

The housing and urban-rural development commission in Tongzhou will continue providing improved services to the resort area to ensure its planned opening next year, said Guo Yongcun, vice director of the commission's quality supervision department.

The resort area project under construction in the east of Beijing includes the Universal Studios theme park, a Universal CityWalk commercial complex and two resort hotels.

According to reports, major structures along the Universal CityWalk commercial complex are taking shape and other supporting projects such as the logistics management services have either been completed or are near completion.

Guo Qiang, executive vice director responsible for the themed lands, expressed confidence that the park will be ready for commissioning by the end of this year and for the grand opening in 2021.
