The Beijing Daxing International Airport recently launched courtesy channels for passengers who do not have a digital health code to ensure their convenient entrance and egress, helping to solve the problem of lack of digital skills among some people, especially the elderly.

All entrances and exits of the Daxing airport have set courtesy channels, through which elderly passengers and other travelers without smartphones or a health QR code can pass freely, as long as they register their health information. Staff members will provide help in this process.

Workers are also posted there to assist foreign elderly travelers to register passport information for quick passage through entrances and exits, saving them the trouble of presenting health codes on smartphones.

It's often hard for senior citizens to adapt to digital technology. These challenges have worsened with the COVID-19 pandemic, as many public places, such as subways, airports, hospitals, and restaurants, require a "health QR code" on a smartphone to enter.

For COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control, a health code has become a travel necessity in China. The big-data-based code can be scanned easily to reflect an individual's health condition, eliminating tedious registration and inquiries. However, it may not be a blessing for those who are not digitally savvy.

The courtesy channels in the Daxing airport are intended to provide greater convenience to senior citizens and increase travel efficiency during the peak time of passenger flow.

In addition, relevant signage has been added to highlight the new channels, and volunteers are posted at the entrances and exits to actively aid passengers in need.

Since the end of October, the average daily passenger throughput of the Daxing airport has exceeded 100,000 person-time, of which more than 1,600 are elderly travelers.
