Beijing's northeastern Shunyi district is vowing to tighten pandemic control measures after recent reports of several locally-transmitted confirmed COVID-19 cases, according to a press briefing on Wednesday.

Shunyi district will strengthen its work in contact tracing, quarantine management, COVID-19 testing, preventing transmission at hospitals and quarantine sites, and risk management to control the spread of COVID-19, said Zhi Xianwei, executive deputy head of the district.

Zhi said related functionaries have identified and put in quarantine a total of 1,239 close contacts of COVID-19 cases by the noon of Wednesday. Special task forces have been set up to provide supplies, psychological consultations, garbage disposals assistance, and disinfection work for those under quarantine, he said.

For people who were formerly exposed to environments tested positive with coronavirus, they will receive at least three rounds of nucleic acid testing to reduce the potential risk of further transmission.

Zhi also vowed to tighten measures across the district including banning large social gatherings, strengthening environmental disinfection and community management, as well as improving people's awareness on mask wearing and social distancing amid the pandemic.
