A Chinese government spokesperson on Thursday supported the Chinese foreign ministry's announcement to sanction 28 Americans including former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo who have seriously violated China's sovereignty.

The spokesperson for the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council said in a statement that the sanctions were consequences brought by Pompeo himself.

Pompeo's unscrupulous interference in China's Hong Kong affairs, malicious slander of China's "one country, two systems" practice, and planning and implementation of so-called "sanctions" grossly violated international law and norms governing international relations. It also seriously damaged China-U.S. relations and severely undermined Hong Kong's prosperity and stability, said the statement.

During his tenure in office of only a few years, Pompeo successfully won himself infamy as a blatant liar and spluttering interventionist, it said.

With his hysterical political tricks, Pompeo staged a farce of typical U.S. bullying and attempts to contain China, said the statement.

History has proven that any forces interfering in China's internal affairs had hit a stone wall, it said. It warned that anyone making further attempts to interfere in China's Hong Kong affairs would only end up in ignominious defeat.
