The Ministry of Science and Technology and the Beijing municipal government recently coordinated with 21 departments, including the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, to roll out an action plan for the construction of a Beijing international sci-tech innovation hub.

The plan proposes optimizing the innovation and industrial chain layout to boost the coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and build it into a national technology innovation center.

Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology Li Meng said that the construction of the Beijing international sci-tech innovation hub will serve as an important starting point for the coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.

By developing Beijing into a global innovation hub, major national needs will be given high priority. Additionally, Tianjin and Hebei will be able to leverage their respective strengths to focus on key core technologies and achieve systematic development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region's technological innovation capabilities. In the meantime, the three areas will carry out more in-depth cooperation in the research and development of industrial generic technologies and applications to form a regional technology innovation network.

Li explained how Zhongguancun Science Park has since its founding built branch parks in Binhai New Area in Tianjin, Baoding, and Xiongan New Area in Hebei. These branches not only promote high-quality development in these regions but also provide efficient use of scientific and technological innovation resources in Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei. In the future, more operations of this kind will be encouraged to speed up the transformation and application of scientific and technological achievements in the Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei regions, thus promoting better integration of regional innovation and industrial chains.
