Beijing released an action plan on Wednesday to tackle air, water, and soil pollution in 2021. In addressing air pollution, the city said it will further decrease its PM2.5 density and heavily polluted days.

Beijing's average concentration of PM2.5 was 38 micrograms per cubic meter in 2020. This year, the city will coordinate local and regional prevention and control of PM2.5, as well as address ozone pollution, greenhouse gas, and air pollutants. Source management of volatile organic compounds will also be tightened.

Furthermore, the city aims to increase its number of electrical vehicles to around 500,000. Clean energy will be provided to lower carbon dioxide emission, and housing and public buildings will be renovated into energy-saving ones.

To keep the water clean, the city will prevent pollution and improve the ecological environment, carrying out the strictest water resource management policies.

Targeting soil pollution, Beijing will keep eyes on the major enterprises that may pollute land, and better harness farming and construction land.
