International bidding for the C2 plot of the Hubei zone in Luohu, reserved for an urban renewal project, was opened at the Luohu Business Center on March 1.

Led by Meng Jianmin, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, an expert team took part in the event along with persons in charge of the Luohu district’s urban renewal authorities.

The Hubei zone is one of the two largest urban renewal zones in Shenzhen. It is located in the core position beside Shennan Road, a main corridor of the headquarters economy sector.

The 500-meter-high Hubei Tower in the C2 plot and the Hubei ancient village in the C6 plot are both Shenzhen landmarks.

On the C3 plot stands a city park open around the clock throughout a year, and on the C7 plot of the zone is a 26,000-square-meter cultural complex.

The focus of the international bidding is that the new projects in the zone should be able to show Luohu’s characteristics and the value of ancient villages so as to combine modernity and history, demonstrating Luohu’s special charms.

In the event, seven international architectural design offices — Heatherwick, BIG, SOM, PCPA, Foster, KPF and MAD —submitted design plans, and explained the ideas behind them.

The expert team has proposed comprehensive and professional suggestions on their plans, which will be further improved accordingly for a final bidding.

The Luohu urban renewal authorities will continue as coordinator and service provider in a bid to make the Hubei zone a model for green, shared, open and sustainable development radiating with charms of diversity and internationalization.
