A training base that specializes in teaching people to drive new energy vehicles (NEVs) with smart training system was officially launched on Thursday by the Beijing branch of Eastern Pioneer Driving School, a major chain driving school in China.

At the largest smart driving training base for NEVs in the country, nearly 1,000 simulators with virtual reality (VR) technologies and over 1,000 NEVs with smart training system have been put in place.

Compared to traditional training classes, the NEV training course supported by VR, AI, and 5G technologies can help students to develop specific skills using a fully immersive environment and automated audio instructions.

In addition to the smart training system, these cars designed for training are also equipped with 20 sensors and two signal receivers, which would activate the automatic braking system in an emergency situation.

At the driving training base, all students need to take at least an eight-hour course on VR simulators. Through VR glasses, students can exercise multiple driving movements like playing video games.

"The base combines the training course with VR, AI, and 5G technologies, and works to build a big data analysis platform for driving behaviors and ensure safe driving through the whole training process," said Yan Wenhui, general manager of Eastern Pioneer Driving School.

Yan added that such technologies can simulate complicated driving scenarios and emergency situations, and help students to learn other defensive driving skills.
