In 2021, Beijing has 15 rail transit lines totaling 291 kilometers under construction, according to the local authority at a recent event promoting construction safety.

By the end of this year, seven sections of subway lines totaling over 50 kilometers are planned to open, which would set a record for Beijing's subway construction. They include the first phase of Line 19, the western stretch of Line 11, the southern stretch of Line 17, the western stretch of the Line Airport Express, and parts of Lines 8, 14, and S1.

Around East Fifth Ring in Chaoyang district near Dongba, a common depot for Lines 3 and 12 is under construction. Covering 653,400 square meters, it is currently the largest of its kind in the history of Beijing's subway construction. The depot is planned to be used for parking and maintenance of the subway trains of Lines 3 and 12, and residential communities will also be built above it.
