China's capital city Beijing has tightened epidemic control measures after a new COVID-19 cluster was reported on Thursday.

At a press conference on Thursday, Xu Hejian, spokesperson of the Beijing municipal government, said the newly reported case cluster involves a wide range of areas and people, which adds difficulty to epidemic prevention and control in the Chinese capital.

The city has reported six locally transmitted cases and one asymptomatic case on Thursday. Several of them are employees of PetroChina who went to the same oil conference.

Xu, who is also the head of the municipal information office, said the city has responded swiftly to the outbreak once it learned of a confirmed case who had traveled to Beijing from Jilin province, and began conducting contact tracing, nucleic acid testing, temporary lockdowns on high-risk areas, and other protocols to contain the further spread of the virus.

By taking swift actions, Beijing will break the chains of transmission through early intervention and win the battle against the COVID-19 epidemic, Xu said.
