The new leadership of the Luohu district government visited a memorial hall for the former site of the headquarters of the Dongjiang guerrilla, as well as the Dongmen pedestrian street and the Qingshuihe zone on Nov. 6.

The Dongjiang guerrilla was an armed force led by the Communist Party of China during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.

The activity is part of the government’s project to study and learn from Party history, which includes field research – such as their visit to Dongmen pedestrian street – for the new leadership. Currently, the street, which is considered a cradle of commerce in Shenzhen and a busy retail hub of the city, is undergoing a transformation project.

In July 2020, the Ministry of Commerce included Dongmen pedestrian street in the second batch of a pilot program aimed at upgrading national commercial pedestrian streets. Dongmen stands as Shenzhen’s only street included in the project.

Meanwhile, an urban renovation project is underway in Qingshuihe, which is expected to be transformed into a core zone of the Dawutong Emerging Industrial Belt, part of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Macao Science and Technology Innovation Corridor, an artificial intelligence industrial base and the spot where the Luohu North Station will be constructed for the Shenshan high-speed railway.

Fan Defan, head of the district government, said that leaders should learn from the ideals of the older generations of revolutionaries, and deepen its sense of responsibility and its mission. What’s more, they should take effective measures to strengthen Luohu’s position as transportation, communication and consumption hubs, and make Dongmen pedestrian street a signature feature of that effort. Luohu should innovate and promote the layout and construction of its high-tech industrial infrastructure while boosting the efficient and convenient flow of innovative elements so as to provide strong support for Luohu’s industrial upgrades.
