Beijing's PM2.5 density was 25 micrograms per cubic meter throughout October, making it the lowest single month ever recorded during the autumn and winter seasons - which includes October to March of the following year, - the municipal environment authorities said Monday.

Meanwhile, from January to October, the average concentration of PM2.5 in Beijing was 32 micrograms per cubic meter, the cleanest among 28 cities within the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and surrounding areas.

This year, Beijing authorities enacted a variety of measures to tackle air pollution, including curbing a total of 82 key volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emission companies, phasing out increasingly obsolete fuel-powered vehicles, promoting renewable-energy cars and overseeing the use of vehicles that operate on diesel. Beijing has also enhanced its supervision of companies and construction sites, while cleaning up dusty roads.

The capital also strengthened law enforcement inspections during key periods such as evenings, increased public awareness of environmental protection and investigated various types of environmental violations.

In October, the city launched a comprehensive autumn and winter air pollution control campaign, ensuring that Beijing's environmental gains last well into the future.
