Beijing's service industry is ready to transform and upgrade. The city has achieved 100% coverage of basic community convenience business services, with 310 chain convenience stores (community supermarkets) per million people, according to data from the Beijing Municipal Commerce Bureau.

In addition, convenience service models are becoming more diverse, and the quality of services is continuously improving. As of 2021, the number of basic convenience commercial outlets in Beijing exceeded 90,000. These basic convenience commercial outlets are divided into eight categories, including vegetable retail, chain convenience stores (including community supermarkets), breakfast restaurants, housekeeping services, beauty salons, terminal delivery outlets (including delivery lockers), laundry services, and repair shops.

According to the head of the Beijing Municipal Commerce Bureau, the city has developed more than 10,000 standardized stores, 12 demonstration blocks, and 20 late-night restaurants centered around the life service industry.

In 2022, the capital will speed up the construction of its quarter-hour convenient living circle. The Beijing Municipal Commerce Bureau will optimize the direction of its financial support to include chain pharmacies and cafes, among other outlets, into the scope of its financial support. Priority will be given to supporting the establishment of outlets in areas with insufficient convenience facilities.

Beijing residents will also have more choices for dining. The city will build a number of specialty restaurants, including the cultivation of around 200 Michelin, Black Pearl, and other stand-out restaurants, and attract about 300 catering brands to establish their first outlet in Beijing.
