LONDON, July 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese veteran lifter Wang Mingjuan gained a commanding lead in the women's 48-kg contention after winning the snatch in 91kg.

Wang, 26, who remained unbeaten in international events since 2002, recovered admirably from a failed first attempt to succeed in her second and third one.

She has to put in a good performance in clean and jerk to win her first Olympic gold as Japanese Hiromi Miyake could make some trouble to her.

The 26-year-old Japanese succeeded in all her three attempts in snatch to finish second in 87kg.

Turkey's Nurdan Karagoz came in third in 83kg. She failed to lift 84kg in her third attempt.

Panida Khamsri, the silver medalist of last year's World Championships, was the biggest disappointment of the day so far after she failed in her three attempts to lift 81kg. Enditem
