BEIJING, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- China's top legislator Wu Bangguo said Wednesday that China supports Egypt's choice of political system, development path and domestic and foreign policies based on its own situation.

During a meeting with visiting Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi in Beijing, Wu expressed appreciation for Egypt's firm support on issues concerning China's core interests. He also pledged China's support for Egypt's efforts to promote its economy and improve people's livelihood.

"China also supports Egypt to play a bigger role on the international arena," said Wu, chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee.

Wu said China attaches importance to the relationship with Egypt and regards Egypt as one of its most important cooperation partners in the Arab world and among African countries.

China will work with Egypt to implement the consensus reached between the top leaders and enhance exchanges and cooperation in various sectors, like the government, parliament, parties and local governments, Wu said.

Morsi said Egypt could learn from China's experiences in successfully exploring a development path that conforms to its own domestic situation.

Morsi is in China for a three-day state visit as a guest of his Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao. This is Morsi's first visit to China and his first foreign trip out of the Middle East since he took office in June. Enditem
