HONG KONG, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- Three women fell critically ill after undergoing a procedure at a beauty center in Hong Kong. The city's health chief expressed shock over the incidents and ordered an investigation into the cases Friday.
The women, aged 46 to 60, sought hospital treatment after receiving intravascular infusions as a beauty treatment at a Causeway Bay beauty treatment center called DR on Wednesday. They were diagnosed with septic shock and remains in critical condition.
Secretary for Food & Health of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government Ko Wing-man said the Department of Health and police are investigating the cases.
He said he was "shocked" by the cases, as intravascular infusion is a medical practice that should be conducted under a doctor's supervision.
The Department of Health has instructed the beauty treatment center to stop the procedure, and advised that anyone who comes down with a fever after receiving similar treatment with intravenous infusions should seek medical advice immediately. Enditem
