BEIJING, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- A bus driver from northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region is leading an online poll conducted by the Xinhua News Agency to select candidates for the agency's annual Good Samaritan award.

Each quarter, Xinhua asks netizens to vote for their favorite Good Samaritans, furnishing a list of candidates who have done good deeds in their local communities.

The third-quarter poll runs from Oct. 1 to 20, with a list of 30 potential honorees to choose from. The top ten candidates will then go on to a final round of voting with 30 candidates selected from other quarterly votes. All of them will compete for the ten winners of an annual award.

Bus driver Ainiwar Mangsu had received 320 votes as of Monday morning, or 20.61 percent of the total votes thus far, for his efforts to aid children and the elderly by giving them free rides in his private car.

A couple who donated the organs of their late two-year-old daughter are currently in second place.

Votes can be cast at www.xinhuanet.com or via microblog and mobile phone services. Enditem
