Wang Yi, the mainland Taiwan affairs chief, has vowed to strengthen the political, economic, cultural and social foundation for peaceful development of cross-Strait ties.

He made the comments while attending the 15th Tecmall Forum on Thursday in Beijing.

Wang, director of the Taiwan Work Office of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, said this was in accordance with the guiding philosophy specified in the report of the 18th CPC National Congress,

Wang said the mainland would continue to strengthen the political foundation of opposing "Taiwan independence" and maintaining the "1992 Consensus".

He said efforts should be made to put people first and work for the benefits of compatriots on both sides and to embrace the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation together with Taiwanese compatriots.

John Chiang, the Kuomintang (KMT) Party vice chairman, at the forum, congratulated the success of the 18th CPC National Congress, entrusted by Taiwan leader Ma Ying-jeou, on behalf of the KMT Central Committee.

He added both sides and both Parties should maintain the "1992 Consensus" and promote the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations. Endi
