Thailand's Jet Asia Airways on Wednesday launched a direct flight service between Hohhot, capital of north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, and the Thai resort island of Phuket.

The carrier offers the charter flight once every six days on a 235-seat Boeing 767-200 aircraft, according to a press release from Hohhot Baita International Airport.

The flight lasts about six hours. It is the longest of all international routes operated from the airport as well as the one with the largest passenger capacity, according to the statement.

The direct flight services will help boost the tourism industry in both Phuket and Inner Mongolia, it said.

"I've long been looking forward to the sunshine and beach there (Phuket)," said Zhang Xiufang, one of 230 passengers who flew to Phuket on Wednesday, adding that she was attracted to Phuket after seeing it in a James Bond movie.

"The flight is non-stop and, therefore, very convenient," she said.

The Hohhot airport also offers scheduled and charter flights to Mongolia, Russia, Japan and the Republic of Korea, facilitating outbound travel for local residents. Endit
