China, Brunei pledge further cooperation

Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said on Wednesday that China will work with Brunei to strengthen cooperation with Brunei and push the cooperation to a higher level.

Yang made the remarks in his meeting with Brunei's Second Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Lim Jock Seng.

"China is willing to work with Brunei to strengthen pragmatic cooperation in economics, trade, energy, culture and education, so as to upgrade China-Brunei cooperation," Yang said.

Yang also said China attaches importance to its relations with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations(ASEAN) and hopes to advance Sino-ASEAN relations through joint efforts so as to make contributions to regional peace, stability and development.

Brunei will hold the rotating presidency of the ASEAN this year.

Lim said Brunei highly values its friendship and cooperation with China.

"In order to achieve a mutually beneficial situation, Brunei will positively push the development of the strategic cooperative partnership between China and ASEAN during its rotating presidency," Lim said.

Lim is visiting China from Jan. 29 to 31 at the invitation of Yang. Endi
