1st LD: Chinese court upholds celebrity gang-rape verdict

A court in Beijing on Wednesdayupheld the verdict in the case of the teenage son of a prominentmilitary singer,given 10 years in prison for rape.
The 17-year-old son of the singerLi Shuangjiang, 74, was among five men who gang-raped a woman in aBeijing hotel on Feb. 7, which generated a huge public outcry andheated controversy.
Li was sentenced to 10 years inprison by the Beijing Municipal Haidian District People's Court onSept. 26 on charges of gang rape and lodged an appeal through hislawyer on Oct. 10 to the Beijing Municipal No. 1 IntermediatePeople's Court.
The case was heard in a privatesession on Nov. 19.
The singer Li taught at the Academyof Arts affiliated to the Chinese armed forces. His wife is also awell-known singer. Endi
